A Black Meteor

The night was mostly clear with a light breeze. The weather was still sweltering from earlier in the afternoon: it was almost as if the air was saturated with heat. My friends and I were relaxing on the front lawn, wondering why it wouldn’t cool down outside. It was at that moment that the answer became apparent: a meteor shot down out of the sky, speeding right for Nuyorican Poets Cafe. We were afraid it would make impact, so we ran. Luckily, the meteor broke off of its route and avoided collision. It instead hit the patch of grass and dirt about 300 yards from us.
