Domain Names and Branding

A domain name is an integral part of a company’s brand. If a domain name mismatches the company name, less credibility is given to the website. For instance, the Japanese car company, Nissan, does not own Nissan.com. Unfortunately, a small computer salesman out of North Carolina purchased the domain before Nissan could get to it. The best alternative was nissanusa.com. Unfortunately, the domain is still not nissan.com and consequently, visitors to this domain (nissan.com) are quite confused not to find the car company’s website.

Urgency is an important word for domain buyers. They are always on the lookout for quality domain names and they are ready to buy at a moments notice. Domainers use domain name suggestions tools and look at lists of expired and soon expiring domains. Some domainers buy domains of upcoming brands in order to make a large sell back when the brand becomes well known. Fortunately, for these brands owners, cybersquatting domains like this is illegal and domainers are usually force to give back the domain.
