Some Key Points to Remember When Shopping for Organic Clothes

Many shoppers out there are confused about all the different labeling on clothes.  Some claim they are organic, some partially organic, others natural.  I get emails asking me how they would know which one is the best.  Just the other day I received a phone call from a friend who was shopping for organic baby clothes and wasn’t sure if bamboo was organic too.  Here is the quick and dirty on this subject.  If you can afford, buy only 100% organic cotton items.  Organic cotton is the best in terms of quality and sustainability.  Bamboo is organic too and is actually a more sustainable alternative to cotton as it grows so quickly.  However, some methods in converting bamboo into fabric use harsh chemicals and since there is no certification process for bamboo fabric, this fact is not disclosed in the label.  Organic hemp is great also if you are looking for a thick and sturdy garment but not necessarily soft.
